During the maiden voyage with my RV, I went to Arizona with big plans but due to my vacation condo selling it quickly became a trip where I loaded up my RV with the belongings I wanted to keep from my RV. Having more stuff than I planned on keeping, I decided to postpone my travels to Sedona and Page Arizona area. So I opted to spend a couple of nights at the Tucson/Lazydays KOA before heading to White Sands National Monument and Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico on my eventual trek back East to my home in Florida because I had a trip to Aruba planned in just a few weeks. The problems with retirement right?
I was honestly a bit stressed because it was an emotional decision on selling my condo, which was in Sierra Vista, about an hour south of Tucson. I really loved going there and spending some time in the mountains. My mom had recently passed away and she really enjoyed watching the hummingbirds buzzing around the feeder on my patio and seeing the sites in the area. I had many great memories but it didn’t make financial sense to keep it since I would be making new memories traveling with my RV.
The Check-In Process
Arriving at the campground, there is plenty of parking space and the check-in process was very quick and easy. The staff was friendly and helpful on answering questions.
The RV Sites
The emotional stress of the day quickly faded when I checked into the Tucson/Lazydays KOA. This campground was absolutely beautiful and pristine. It was also unique with some of the different types of sites they offer which include 30 covered sites using solar panels that produce clean energy, “paw pen” sites, fireplace sites, buddy sites, and deluxe pet-friendly sites with fireplace.
Amenities
The Tucson/Lazydays KOA is not short on amenities. There are plenty of things to keep you busy if you are not planning on leaving the campground.
Once I got settled in at my fireplace site after a long day, one of the first things I decided to try out was the onsite BBQ Rush restaurant. The food was good and the restaurant also had a full-service bar with adult beverages. The next day I enjoyed the main pool and hot tub area which has a “resort” feeling. There is a secondary pool area near the campground playground.
In the photo gallery below you can get a look at some of the amenities and RV sites the campground has to offer. As you will see in the pictures that I took, the campground is very clean and well maintained.
Review & Recommendations
The Tucson/Lazydays KOA is definitely on my return list when in the Tucson area. While some campgrounds use the word “resort” too easily, Tucson/Lazydays KOA is deserving of the “resort” classification. As mentioned earlier, you can easily stay just at the campground and relax without the need to leave but if you are going to be here for more than one night, there are plenty of things to see in Tucson and the surrounding area, including the Saguaro National Park and the Arizona-Senora Museum which I highly recommend. Good Sams has given the Tucson/Lazydays KOA a near-perfect rating (9.5/9.5*/10).
