During my visit to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, I joined some friends at the Whispering Hills RV Park, conveniently located a few miles from I-75. Whispering Hils is located in a country setting but with its close proximity to I-75, you can find pretty much anything you want from stores or restaurants within a few miles. If you plan on visiting The Ark Encounter, Whispering Hills RV Park is a great option, it is located about 30 miles away.
The Check-In Process
The staff was friendly and helpful and let me know which discount program was the best for my reservation. As it turned out, their internal discount for the weekly rate was cheaper at $30.85 per night for two weeks. Since this was a last-minute booking due to plans changing, they were very accomodating over the phone. I would have liked to stay a few days longer since my reservations in Pigeon Forge could not be changed due to being full. I was approaching the Labor Day weekend so all of the area campgrounds were fully booked.
The RV Sites
If you read my blog post on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, you know it was an interesting trip. So when I arrived at the Whispering Hills RV Park, I was a bit frustrated with the site not being level (I stayed in Lot 62). With the weight of my full slideout wall, being level is critical to ensure my refrigerator maintains proper temperatures. I noticed that after someone checked out, the maintenance crew would attempt to level out the gravel RV sites. There are 232 sites, mostly back-in. There are 51 pull-thru sites with 9 of these listed as premium sites (basically bigger with a nice patio area).
Each site had full hook-ups with 30 and 50 amp service. There is no cable service and you can only receive about 3 or 4 over-the-air channels. The Wi-Fi was pretty good with pretty reliable streaming. When the campground was full on the weekends, I needed to switch between wi-fi stations.
The Amenities
The amenities are pretty basic but I would classify this as a family-friendly park. Some of the amenities include:
- Pool
- Laundry/Bath Houses
- Wi-Fi
- Propane
- Fishing Pond
- Playground
- Pet Stations (No fenced pet area)
- Pavillion
- Basketball Court
- Fire Rings At Most Sites
- Small General Store at Main Office
Review & Recommendations
Would I come back? Yes! I liked how the campground was well maintained (sites could be more level) and with being very kid-friendly, I didn’t find it noisy. It was a great place to relax and visit the area bourbon distilleries and local wineries. Good Sams gives Whispering Hills RV Park a near-perfect rating of 9.5/9.5*/9.5.
