When I first started RV’ing, I didn’t know much about RV Campgrounds. Some say they are campgrounds, some say RV Park while others say RV Resort. I did learn quickly that some RV campground’s idea of a “resort” is vastly different from mine! Fortunately, the very first RV Resort I stayed at in 2017, was Cajun Palms in Henderson, Louisiana (near Lafayette). I saw it on the show “Going Rv”. While they didn’t show much on the episode, I looked it up and thought this would be a perfect stopping point for my first trip out west.
My was reaction was “WOW”, I had no idea this is what an RV campground was like. They definitely met my definition of a resort-which is something with great amenities, looks great, and could be a destination all by itself. Since that first trip, I have stayed there four times now. I can’t travel out west on I-10 (a quarter-mile from I-10) without making this a destination along the way. During my most recent stays (going to Arizona and then returning to Florida) I decided to stay on sites 140 on my trip out west and site 141 on my return trip. These sites were located on a pond where you could fish or just feed the ducks. Amazingly, there was only a $5 difference between prices for non-water lots. I paid $50 per night which is high for an RV Park, but I don’t mind considering the amenities.
The Check-In Process
As you pull into Cajun Palms, you proceed to a very large (big enough for several RV’s) covered area. The office area consists of the registration counter (similar to a hotel) and a decently stocked store in the event you forgot something. One of my favorite things at check-in is the registration bracelet they give you. It has a number on it that you can tie to your credit card. This way when you are in the pool and decide to visit the swim-up bar, you just need to show them the number. No need to carry any cash or wallet at the RV Resort. Once you are checked in, they will escort you right to your site.
The RV Sites
There are over 300 sites, all with concrete pads and full hookups that include 30 and 50 amp electrical, 70+ channels of digital cable, and on-site water and sewer. Pull-Thru and Back In spots have 20 feet of space between each concrete pad. If you are traveling with other RV’ers? They have a few group sites that can share some common areas. I have found each site that I have stayed at to be level and well maintained.
The Amenities
This is the area that makes this a resort! I have to jump right into the most impressive, pool area. You feel like you are at a high-end hotel resort. There is a kid’s area with water slides and fountains, lounge chairs that sit in the water, a large hot tub, and my favorite, the swim-up bar where you can sit on a stool in the water and enjoy that adult beverage. It is important to know that they do not permit kids in this area (21+ is strictly enforced) of the pool. The hot tub is also an adult (18+) area.
Some of the other amenities include:
•Large clubhouse that can hold up to 750 people
•Video Arcade
•Fitness Room
•Theater (Small fee includes movie, drink, and popcorn)
•Putt-Putt golf
•Volleyball sand court
•Video Poker
•Large covered lounge area overlooking the pool area (great reading and chilling spot)
•Food delivery service to your site
•Local restaurant (great Cajun food) pick-up service at your site
Review & Recommendations
I think it is fair to assume that I am a fan of Cajun Palms RV Resort. But I am not the only one, Good Sams has given Cajun Palms a perfect rating (10/10*/10). According to the Cajun Palms website, they have maintained that rating for the last 6 years. I would say my only two complaints or negatives would be they require a two-night minimum when booking online and they don’t offer free wi-fi. Their website indicates a two-night minimum (more on holidays) on weekends but walk-ins can enjoy a one-night stay based on availability. I have booked during the week on three of my four stays and the website still only allowed me to select a minimum of two nights. In fairness, I never asked during my check-in about changing it to one night because I honestly like to spend more than two nights since it is nice and relaxing (weekends can be packed and a bit crazy with locals-but nothing that has bothered me).
On the Wi-Fi, while it is not free, the prices are not unreasonable. It is a business and they have expenses, so if I had the need, I wouldn’t object to paying. The cell service has been good so I have had no problem using my AT&T unlimited plan for streaming programs and movies. They do offer two plans, standard and premium. The premium is best for streaming services and would cost $55 for the weekly plan or $68 for the monthly plan. The standard plan is $5 per day or a weekly rate of $30.
If you are traveling along I-10 in Louisiana and want a nice break, I would definitely recommend stopping by and spend a couple of nights at Cajun Palms RV Resort.
